Wearing: wearing mostly 6-9 month clothing, size 3 diapers, and just measured his foot at a size 3
Weight and Height:
At his six month appointment he was 27 inches and 19 pounds 2 ounces (somewhere between/around the 50 and 75th percentile)
Appearance: Joah still looks so much like James at 6 months. His hair is growing back lighter and his eyes are still blue-ish but they seem to change at times to. We'll see how it all ends up. He's still a smiley guy!
Eating: Nursing on demand all the time. He started solids right before he turned 6 months old and has had rice cereal, sweet potatoes, apples, and carrots so far. He loved the carrots, seemed happy about the sweet potatoes, and seemed a little unsure about apples. He has really been licking his lips and showing excitement about eating when he's put in his highchair.
Sleeping: he's transitioned out of the rock n play and swaddle this month; he still takes several cat naps and a longer nap in the afternoon; he sleeps all night *if* he's snuggled up next to Mama (I don't sweat it. This too shall pass...)
Interactions/Development: he is starting to seem so much more grown up this month: he whines, arches, and squirms when he wants to get down on the floors with his brothers, he can roll and scoot and spin in a circle all over he floor to get to their toys, he can put anything (pacis, leaves, paper, toys, whatever!) in his mouth, he can sit on his own for a few seconds but is still a little wobblier than his brothers at this age, he is trying to get up on his knees constantly and will kind of leap forward, he has learned to cry to get to Mama and knows now when I'm out of sight (the nursery workers joke that he cries for me with no tears! Ha!), blowing raspberries, and drooling but no teeth yet
Outings: nothing too unusual but lots of youth events as firsts: bonfire, football games, homecoming parade
Things he seems to like: being held, being worn in the ergo carrier, bath time, being outside, his mam pacifiers, watching and laughing at. his big brothers, his play mat, playing on the floor, toys, food!
Things he dislikes; being in the car seat especially later at night or when it's dark; Mama leaving him or being out of sight now
Health: he's been very healthy other than having a rough time with the 6 month vaccines (worse than my other two); still spitting up quite a bit but not bothered by it
Temperament: He's probably the most happy, easy-going baby of the three! Everyone comments on how happy he is. He has started to fuss just a little when he's not pleased with something.
Sweet Joah, Happy half birthday! It seems like we were just meeting you and welcoming you forever into our wild but wonderful family and now, already, half a year has passed. I praise God that he saw fit to make you ours and for all the wonderful things that you bring to this family with your smile, your joy, your giggle, and just your very presence. I look forward to all the days ahead with you. You make every day an even sweeter gift. I love you forever.
Love, Mama
